Obituaries

It is with deep sadness but also a deep sense of appreciation for her life that the family of Monica Theresa Joseph, CBE, DBE ,LL.D
announces her passing on Thursday 6th July, 2023 at the General Hospital in the Town of St. George in Grenada
at the age of 89.

Dame Monica Theresa Joseph was The First appointed female high Court Judge and Justice of Appeal of The West Indies Associated States Supreme Court, now known as The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. She was appointed as Deputy Governor -General of Grenada and has served various island states Governments and Commissions of The Region, including The Integrity Commission of Grenada and The Public Service Commission as chairman in both instances.

Dame Monica is survived by:
Sisters: Patricia Joseph-Riviere (In the U.K.), Jeanne Joseph-Ortega (in Canada) and Dr. Marguerite-Joan Joseph (Grenada)

Her nieces and nephews: Karen and Louis Ortega and Zahra-Ortega Beckles in Canada, Angela Riviere-Berry, Bernard Riviere, Valerie Riviere-Hughes and Norman Joseph in England, Louisa, Gloria, Andrew, Thomas, Ricky, Janice, Monica, Raphael and Stephen Joseph and Raphael Charles in Grenada and Carlyle Batson, Kathlean, Desmond and Andy Charles in USA

Several grandnieces and nephews including: Yousuf , Khalif and Sharif, Ortega-Beckles, Louis Ortega (Junior) and Jumal Ortega in Canada, Joseph Riviere-Hughes, Simone Riviere, Letitia Draxler-Riviere in the U.K, Rianna , Joshua, Vaughan and Alana Joseph in Grenada

Her great grandnephews (in UK): Denai, Enrique, Maxwell and Miles

Funeral Service will be held at Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Church Street St. George
and entombment at St. Valentine Cemetery
